Prescribed Fires Planned this Week on
Williams Ranger District

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Fire managers are planning to implement two prescribed fires in the Frenchy project this week, about eight miles east of Williams, near Sherwood Forest Estates. Implementation of the burns is contingent on favorable environmental conditions and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval.  Depending on conditions, the following burns may occur:

Wed.,  Sept. 29                                122 acres                Northeast of Mineral Lake
Thurs. or Fri., Sept. 30 or Oct. 1                385 acres                Northeast of Horse Hill

Monday, fire managers cancelled the City Sheridan Prescribed Fire on the south side of Williams due to forecasted hot temperatures that were outside the “prescription” for the project. Officials will continue to evaluate the current and predicted weather to determine if the Frenchy burns will be implemented.
The burns will be monitored for fire spread and smoke production.  Our prescribed burns are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that future fires in the area remain at a lower level of intensity, thereby protecting firefighters and the community.
