Prescribed Fire Plans for Wednesday

Flagstaff, AZ – Crews ignited on both the Woody Ridge and Blue Ridge Urban Interface (BRUI) projects today. Tonight and tomorrow morning, residual smoke will be noticeable on Hwy 89A and Oak Creek Canyon from the Woody Ridge Project, and around the Clear Creek Pines subdivision in Blue Ridge. Crews are planning another prescribed fire project on the BRUI project tomorrow, September 29, pending favorable conditions.

Blue Ridge Urban Interface – up to 600 acres south of Hwy 87, off Forest Road 95, just south of the Blue Ridge Ranger Station. Smoke will move to the northwest during the day. Residual smoke will linger on Hwy 87 and the subdivision.

Crews work hard to address the critical need for reducing the risk of severe wildfires near homes and neighborhoods while minimizing smoke impacts to communities.  Fire managers on the Coconino National Forest coordinate prescribed fire plans with the other partners in the Ponderosa Fire Advisory Council (including local fire departments), as well as neighboring forests. All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).
