Are you talking about a cPanel host? cPanel bundles SquirrelMail with its own
software. It's often a version or so behind the current SquirrelMail release, but it
should work.

I also use a cPanel host: although I run my own installation of SquirrelMail, I know
that many users on the shared servers use the SquirrelMail bundled with cPanel. If
yours is not working, then there's an error that your host should fix. If your host
doesn't respond to support tickets, then you need a better host.
