This appears to be a choice between:

"Everyone write a script that converts 'file' output to 'sox' arguments."

and

"Just use 'sox --magic' and forget about it."

IMO, as far as user friendliness goes, the latter wins. Not having to
re-invent the wheel is a nicety that should not be overlooked.
