A few minor points - if you want to start a new topic of discussion (thread) please do rather than reply to an existing message - it breaks threading and people who may be ignoring a thread won't see the new discussion.

Secondly there wasn't really any need to include the whole of my message in your "reply", generally people here[0] prefer in-line commenting - it's easier to follow in some peoples opinion.

Thirdly this is sort of comment is a bit flammatory, just as in some ways as $EDITOR is as much a personal choice as technological so is $DEPSOLVER. Both people who work on yum and apt-rpm follow this list, and posting such statements without context or research into the issues is quite impolite IMHO

I would recommend that first you try out both apt and yum and see what works
for you.

If you are really intrested in the differences in behaviour you can look at the source of both. Some of the "speed" and memory differences are really due to rpmlib rather than the merits of a particular tool.

If you are intrested in helping improve performance of either of the tools or simply wish to understand behavoural differences the above will put you in a better position to ask smart questions see below for more tips:

[0] Observational evidence - don't want to start a posting format thread...
