I was under the impression that the scsi raid controller (adaptec 2120S)
did DMA by default?

A DMA howto I read:
"If you have SCSI disks, this is the only configuration you are likely to
have, and you do not need to do anything."

I ran hdparm while in X with a lot of programs running:

$ /sbin/hdparm /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 geometry     = 13385/255/63, sectors = 215032320, start = 0

$ sudo /sbin/hdparm -Tt /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads:   1988 MB in  2.00 seconds = 994.00 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:  198 MB in  3.01 seconds =  65.78 MB/sec

I seem to get quit different readings each time I run hdparm.
