Since these are rather "odd" port numbers it's a fair bet that they're being allocated dynamically. I seem to recall a discussion on the list a while ago that pointed an accusing finger at fam. Also any rpc services that are started by the portmapper will tend to get random port numbers. A good start is "rpcinfo -p" which shows the ports allocated for RPC. I notice that mine has sgi_fam among them which possibly explains fam. From: "Jake McHenry" <linux@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
I was wondering if someone could inform me of what ports 50629, 618,
616, and 58861 are. This is on a RH9 box. They do not show up in /etc/services.
sco-sysmgr 616/tcp SCO System Administration Server sco-sysmgr 616/udp SCO System Administration Server dei-icda 618/tcp DEI-ICDA dei-icda 618/udp DEI-ICDA
Although netstat -something-or-other shows ports and pids, I prefer "/sbin/lsof -i:<port>", but then I'm funny like that :-)
