When we upgraded at work it was only $99 -- does that mean that the offer has expired? Generally speaking, we've found it a good investment to upgrade. It's much cheaper than buying PCs. Hindsight is wonderful isn't it? :-)


For your problem, however, you may be able to get VMware to run if you take a stock kernel from kernel.org. I've had VMware running on RH releases that wouldn't otherwise support it by using a stock kernel instead of the RH one.
