This is a stupid question, but I need to ask anyway. When you say "modprobe anything.o", do you mean "modprobe 3c501.o", then "modprobe 3c503.o", etc? BTW, the directory is "/lib/modules/<arch>/kernel/drivers/net". I did manage to find that ;).
I should have said "modprobe 3c509" for example. The ".o" is implied and unnecessary, and may even cause it not to work.
I tried googling "FEM656".
Try Googling for "FEM656 driver Red Hat Linux" or something with a little more detail.
