I deleted a lot of these before I suddenly remembered "sar". I'm
fairly sure this will give you I/O activity down to individual
processes. Expect to spend some time getting it right though. The
good thing is that sar works on collected data so you can gather
information while your system is using the disk a lot and then analyze
it later.
The big problem, though, is that disk traffic is not associated with any
particular process at the point at which it happens so there's no
"direct" tool that will help.
