LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5...why me ?

Hi all,

I am using xsane and iscan for my scanner. After upgrading to RH9, or
maybe after some RHN updates, I had the message:
$ xsane
Could not find "libpthread.so".Segmentation fault

After one post here with no answer, I finally got some information
explaining me the "export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5". It satisfied me 50%,
but I was able to use my scanner, even if not as a gimp plugin. It was
speaking about glibc i386 and i686 ...

My question is : my new customer installed RH9, up2date everything as
me, and used xsane or iscan WITHOUT any problem. After comparing our 2
servers, libraries and rpm, our systems looked identical ...

Is this bug going to follow ME forever ? Do I have, in the future, to
make a clean new install for RH 10 ? Does anybody have relevant
information about this problem, and maybe how to fix it ?

Thanks (Hoping to have more answers this time).

Philippe
