Look for /etc/X11/XF86Config.backup This is the backup file created when you ran redhat-config-xfree86. I'd list the directory first to see how many XF86Config.* files there are. Rename the current file to something like XF86Config.me (I use .joe as that's my first name) and then rename the backup files, one at a time, and try X again. Hopefully one of them will work. If not, and running redhat-config-xfree86 doesn't help, then it's deeper than I can help you with.
