Every new packages requires devel, integration and QA. I'd much rather see red hat drop a fair number of packages and be able to step up the amount of QA time spent on other things. To some people Red Hat Linux provides a great infrastructure that they build the rest of their system around. If red hat were to only work on a handful of core systems I'd recommend: rpm, kernel, glibc, anaconda and generalized desktop organization. (meaning menus, themes, layout, etc) -sv
