I'm a professional programmer and a have an academic interest in 
programming languages (post-graduate) and I know C, C++ and Java.   
You're right, it's way off topic for this list.   There's a lot of 
"interesting" misinformation and misconveptions about C vs Java and 
you're right to want to go into more detail about the relative merits of 
C++ and Java.
