I've read that paragraph before and was never fully satisfied with it. Besides some bug fixes there isn't much difference between Red Hat 8.0 and Red Hat 9. Sure you can say the kernel is "newer" but anyone can download the latest kernel patch and compile it on their own machine. Those kernels are mostly the same anyway,
at least for "normal" users who don't hack kernel code. I was hoping that someone would provide me with some more facts about the differences between these two versions.
Just a couple of data points -
I had a couple of systems that had been stable under red hat 7.x, which became very crash prone in 8.0 - I fixed one by switching to suse, the other I fixed by running a 2.5 kernel - and that was more stable than red hat's 2.4.18 - go figure.
Now both of those boxes are now running RH 9, and are rock solid once again.
RH 9 is clearly a big win for me w.r.t. 8.0
