You can try to remove scsi emulation to see if it works better for you. Just
remove scsi related parameters from kernel command line (/etc/grub.conf) and
reboot the system. kudzu should configure the rest for you. Then you can use
'cdrecord -scanbus -dev=ATAPI' command to see the devices. You may need to
configure some cd writing/ripping tools to use ATAPI devices instead of
scsi, while some of them may detect this by themselves.
