Well, crap. I try not to clutter up the list with junk, but you were
right. It just stopped reading early. I tried it again and it worked. I
forgot Dave's First Law of computers: Try it again and see if it fails a
second time. (I don't have DMA issues; I have an all-SCSI system.)

I just ran it again, and it worked, again.
