You should use the *optical* mouse on a refelctive surface. Black surfaces _absorb_ light. I've never has problems with my (corded) Logitech Optical Mouse (USB). The only thing is that I keep dropping it on the floor (poor thing!) but it still works. I *don't* use a mouse pad, just my leg... regardless of if I'm wearing cutoffs or regualar pants. Once started using this mouse, I did away with all mouse pads. N.B. During install, RH always defaults to "Generic USB", but I usually select "Logitech USB mouse". *Either selction works. Just *don't* use dark coloured surfaces for the mouse.
