At this point, I am going to suggest that you try to compile the latest
2.4.21-pre2 kernel from Marcello (ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/testing). I
have it running here and it is the best so far of the 2.4 pedigree. It
includes a ton of fs fixes from Alan Cox.
