Sorry folks my above reply got away before I added any good content.

Where I'm stubling around is filling the input boxes on the web
interface. Maybe I should mention that my printer is one of those
all in one machines fax, print, copy, scan. It's an
HP Deskjet D145 and is hooked up vie USB.

[REPEAT - Hooked up vie USB cable (Is this a likely problem?)]

I've done this:

Name:           HP
Location:       /var/spool/hp
Description:    Default printer

==

Device: AppSocket/HP JetDirect

==

Device URI:  socket:/localhost:9100/

==

Model/Driver for hp

Make:   HP
Model: HP New DeskJet Series (Mine is not thie model but seemed
                                the closest)
==

At this point the Browser config tool tells me my printer is
successfully configed. I just guessed at the input.

Trying the test button gets me nothing what ever

Ok `service cups stop'
    `service cups start' puts this in err log:
