 It does seem likely that the redirect feature was what they meant. 

But, what if you had atrue bounce feature. If you were able to bounce an
email message as if a mailbox didn't exist, the sender (if done
properly) would never know it was accepted by your mail server. You'd
have to munge the mail headers which is probably a no no....
