Re: CUPS Configuration Errors: LaserJet@localhost Problems

I'm really confused here. I've defined a nice CUPS printer as mentioned
earlier, using the web adminstration interface. The device URI is
lpd://PS55255/L1 and it will print a nice test page when I click the
"Print Test Page" button.

But when I try to check the printer status, I get errors:

[root@rachelslaptop root]# lpstat -p -d
system default destination: LaserJet
Printer 'LaserJet@localhost' - cannot open connection - No such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol
Printer 'all@localhost' - cannot open connection - No such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol
Printer 'LaserJet@localhost' - cannot open connection - No such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol
Printer 'all@localhost' - cannot open connection - No such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol

When I try to print a file, I get this:

cochran@rachelslaptop lm_sensors-2.6.5]$ lp -d LaserJet Makefile
Status Information:
 sending job 'bcochran@rachelslaptop+381' to LaserJet@localhost
 connecting to 'localhost', attempt 1
cannot open connection to localhost - No such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol
and accepts connections from this host and from non-privileged (>1023) ports
[bcochran@rachelslaptop lm_sensors-2.6.5]$

I notice that cupsd and cups-lpd do not start at startup even with
cups-lpd turned on via ntsysv.

I've turned off lpd in all runlevels.

I wonder if I'm missing an installation file? I have cups-1.1.15-10
installed. Are there other, related RPMs?

Thanks
