Hmmm, could it be that some weird CD-writers use a different
number of run-out sectors?! Did the size of the ISO file divided
by 2048 match the number of sectors you entered in readcd?

I would recommend AOpen http://www.aopen.nl even though their
"JustLink" buffer-underrun prevention technology is not supported
by cdrecord. Consult the specifications appendix in the PDF user
manual on what modes are supported. I'm confident their latest
models do support DAO.
