I'm finding that if I set /etc/sysconfig/harddiskhdb to USE_DMA=1 hdparm will show dma is still off for this device. However, if I rename harddiskhdb so it won't be recognized and then edit modules.conf to add 'options ide-cd dma=1' then hdparm will show dma being on for my drive.
