You should be able to use XFree86 4.2.x modules in XFree86 4.3.0.  

If they don't work, then all of the bullshit that developers need
to jump through hoops in order to live with the ELF loader is a
complete crock and done in vain for no real world benefit.  ;o)

(Of course many would argue it is a crock wether the above works 
 for you anyway.)
