XFree86-4.3.0/Radeon 9000 Pro/DRM/RH 8

Hello
I have a stock RH 8.0 system that I took your XFree86-4.3.0 src rpm to compile, it worked great after upgrading fontconfig and freetype packages. It is installed and works without too much of a problem. I have the Radeon 9000 Pro card that I'm trying to get 3d acceleration working on. I have the radeon version 1.1.1 needing version 1.3.x message problem. I saw the message where you said to use the rawhide kernel, which for me doesn't work. The smp kernel can't find the root partition anymore. I have installed
kernel-2.4.18-27.8.0 (works)
kernel-smp-2.4.20-2.48 (can't find root)
kernel-source-2.4.18-27.8.0
kernel 2.4.20 (vanilla stock with smp) is working.

The problem with the smp kernel I think is the inability to load the 3ware driver so it can't find the LABEL=/ to mount. I don't have the foggiest idea why. When I installed the rawhide kernel I also updated SysVinit, vixie-cron and the pam modules...

In either case, I'm confused as to where the radeon drm module with version 1.3 comes from. Is it a patch you are adding to your kernel? If so, how can I add it to the stock 2.4.20 kernel I have working? This is the last hurdle I have to have a working XFree with acceleration for my Radeon card.

Any pointers, ideas or ways I can get the newer radeon module so this works?
