We have run into this problem with HP/Compaq DL360 G3 machines. It turned
out to be a problem between RH9 and the CD drive's software rev number.
Only one rev number worked. The exact model number that we are using
successfully is:

  CD-224E-CC7
  Part No. 1977047C-C7
  HW/FW Rev. 01/9.9A
  Manufactured March 2003

The barcode information is:

  CT: 7673C01D50H4GS
  P/N: 314933-932

All of the above is on the Compaq label with the serial number on it.
There are several different CD drives with the model "CD-224" on them.
We had to have our friendly DEC/Compaq/HP service engineer come out with a
handfull of CD drives to figure out the problem.

HP says that they don't support RH9 on their server-class machines. We're
on our own about this....
