no details on right now, sorry to say) between XP Pro and Samba (like, they
don't play well together). There's a fix out there somewhere, which I just
haven't dug up for my client yet


Apparently, XP Home edition is not affected by this bugaboo.

Do you have smdb and nmdb up and running on the Linux box? Create a share
in smb.conf for /home/truc. Once that's done and the Samba daemon is up
and running, you should be able to view the share in "My Network Places"
on the XP desktop. I usually end up just mapping a network drive to the
share.
