Is it possible to create a global variable from within a function? My function loads parameters from the command line, and assigns them to php variables. I want to be able to pass these back to the main php code to be used in other functions. The names of the parameters (i.e. 'mode') are unknown until the program is run, so cannot be declared globally at the start of the script. There's a snippet in one of my books showing a function returning by reference - is this what I'm looking for?
