a separate file these days.

People often look at 0's and 1's differently depending upon how they got there. There are some valid reasons to look at architecture, but it's still just 1's and 0's.

But, all dB's basically use a read/write system that mimics the file system in some fashion -- so at some level the two are undistinguished.
