Yes it is a sony sensor.  The sonys also dont have low pass accept regular a7. A7r and r2 do not have low pass.

You are wrong about the sensor.  It was made specifically for the SL and not by Sony.  It has no low-pass filter so it's sharper and has greater dynamic range.  Just read any of the reviews and comparisons to the Sony.  I have been waiting for Leica to come out with an auto-focus camera and am not disappointed at all in this one.  I hated the Fujis and Sonys that I've tried.  The buttons on this one are very Leica-like and logical without having to go through layers and layers of menus.  I'm very happy with it.

My issue there is that the Leica bodies are nothing more then 2 gen old sony sensors in a nice body.   Unless you have a lot of leica glass you are just going to get better performance from the same leica glass on a Sony A7r or A7r2.   The SL is not waterproof its weather sealed which is huge difference.

You can also start off with a cheap a6000 aps-c and all the Sony mount lenses will work with the a7 series.   (and will all the adapters)  You just want to buy the Full frame version of the lenses.

I absolutely love my Leica SL and it uses all Leica lenses, M and R, and Canon with an adapter.  The M240 will, too, and it's smaller.  The SL is waterproof and built like a tank.

Can anyone on this list weigh in on mirrorless camera suggestions for someone who wants to be able to use both Leica glass as well as Canon L glass with it?

Thank you.
