My 18mm from 1972 was used for a portrait of Joe Hirschhorn and it so soft I am embarrassed. I shot it at f11, but it did not help.

Sigma lens are hit or miss.   Can be good and can have problems.   When they are right they are fine.  So make sure to test the lens before you buy it because having the left side of your work be out of focus while the right is super sharp can be frustrating.
