Karl. The image is 360dpi which is divisable by the the printers max dpi. You dont send a 2880 dpi image to the printer. Or 5760dpi. The mix value of a color or its LAB coordinate define the color. If you want to make up your own terms fine. A pixel can be singular and have one element or an infinite amount of elements. If you print 8micron single element prints at the dot pitch of highest dpi printer you would have a lot of paper base.

and I do believe the single dot of a printer is 'programmed' - by the printer generally. And for my own amusement and edification of some students I did program a single dot per mm from a printer to demonstrate pixels to science students - pointing out that, in this case, technically, whether any one liked it or not and irrespective of what they'd heard, read or written - one squirt of ink could in fact be a pixel. (we used yellow - easier to spot under UV) it helped illustrate dpi Vs ppi

every pixel is made of sub pixels(dots) on anything hardware
based. Just as a printer DOT is made up of smaller dots. A inkjet works
the exact same way as a Halftone screen. When we where working on the
color system that the epson 1900 used when I was doing my master in
Pre-press at RIT part of the problem was how to make a screen that didn't
mangle the dots into a huge mess of ink. How to get 8 drops in a
stochastic screen to not just pile on each other. (that was up to math
people) The only difference is the screens are now software even on an
inkjet.
The epson printer will print WAY faster if you feed it a 360 DPI image
that low a quality is what canon and others would call 'draft quality' without specifying the dpi to the disinterested user- very fast.. not many dots at all.
because it doesn't have to interpolate anything. (it does) it then lays
out that mess into how ever many screens you have of color. Each screen
makes a dot which in total makes a Dot. Yeah there is a dot and a Dot. At
one point someone tried to change them to be called spots and the entire
print industry told them to go jump.
