Uhg,  why does everyone have to be so black and white on this topic.   The spout reasons that are trivial or purely personal like grain.  Get capture one, dxo, or neat and film grain and chip noise will not even be worth discussing.   Film has about at worst 2x the color range.  So way less controlled by a film designer then a profile designer.   Tmax 400 has 19+ stops of latitude.  Ektar 15+.  Best main stream digital is around 400% less then ektar and 1200% less then tmax 400.

And don't even mention grain.  Another item we were held hostage by.

Let it go.  Film is dead.  Even if you want to have whatever you imagine the look of film is/was, you don't need the burden of shooting with film to get it.

Learn to use the tools now available.
