Well looks like they never learn anything. Anyone else remember Windows
ME??? I am still scarred from that experience
I always wondered who was the person that bought that "OS"..
But seriously, vendor support is largely to blame for some things (many
things)
Take for instance the HP website that permitted downloads of many of their
scanners/printers for Win2k - until the day XP was released - all of a
sudden the downloads were all removed and instead the user got the message
'this OS is not supported, you need to update your OS' - and then the
adventurous who downloaded the driver and found the XP driver was the same
as the Win2k driver.. attempts at installation earned a similar warning
along the lines of 'this program cannot be installed on this OS, please
upgrade your OS'
Of course it was pure BS, there was an operating system check in the
installer that would refuse the driver installation. Like a whole bunch of
games, the OS check was unnecessary and once circumvented, allowed full use
of the game/printer/scanner.
Not too dissimilar from the NEF plugin, downloadable from Nikon for free up
to the day a certain incarnation of a certain image editor program was
released...
Silly consumers - don' they know they're supposed to give us all their
ill-gotten Earth Monies??
