The really good copy-editors seem to have a mystical power to look at a page and have the errors leap out at them; it's quite bizarre. This also collides with the meme that any spelling or grammar flame on the internet is guaranteed to contain spelling or grammar errors, and the one that people can't proof-read their own writing at all effectively.
