I can't get rid of the keyboard for text but I don't do much with text in Photoshop. If I need to type I type but when I work in LR and PS the pen and shortcut keys do 90%.

I didn't like the feel of the 'drag' of my finger on the tablet. The pen is smoother. I do this for hours a day, day in and day out. I like the fluid feel of the pen.

Yes, you can set the tablets to do the same things you can do with keyboard commands but the issue becomes WHERE the tablet is relative to the keyboard on your desk. I have a specialized keyboard tray, the large Intuos tablet and short arms. When I use the tablet I put it on my keyboard tray, move my keyboard up on my desk and work away. The Intuos shortcut keys run along the side of the tablet so while my fingers move up and down the side accessing the keys my arms aren't moving much at all. If I only did this kind of work every now and again it might not matter but I'm at my desk for easily 5 hours a day working on images. Simplifying my movements is huge to my physical comfort while I work.

That is a downside to the Bamboo in my mind...the shortcut buttons are at the top. Not efficient for my needs because they required way, way too much arm moving.

It may be exactly what you need. I'm just not sure. It's at a darn good price point, that's fir certain.

What I discovered with the Bamboo is that it could do so much but not enough so the keyboard couldn't get very far away. My desk is such that this was a HUGE PAIN both physically on my body and on my brain. That was the main reason for moving to the Intuos4...way more command keys on the tablet itself which cuts down on my need for the keyboard.

Interesting. How would you get away from having to use the keyboard to input text? I've always regarded the keyboard as a given - as long as we need words we will never get rid of it.

But the pen - now that's the tool I'd most like to be free of. If the touch part of the Bamboo could do everything I now use the pen for I could get rid of it, and the trackball.

It took me awhile to figure out how to program the custom buttons on my Intuos but once I did it changed my life. The can be customized differently for each program I use regularly then have standard universal settings for everything else. Crazy cool.

I do understand that, but I have yet to work out how they can work with my workflow. For instance, nearly everything they can be scripted for I do with keyboard commands - print, save, cut, paste, save as, confirm (the return or enter key), select all. In Photoshop I have a list of actions which are Function key activated, but I rarely use them on single images - I nearly always use them from Bridge for batch processing

Hope this is a little helpful.

Thank you. Every bit of someone else's experience is helpful, always!
