Chris, I agree with you. I regret that the placement of the subject, which was chosen by the subject, offered nothing of interest to compliment or contrast the subject. So, although the subject is in focus and framed reasonable well, it still lacks that little bit extra to keep the viewer's attention. Ultimately, it devolves into simply being an exercise in doing macro shots and becoming familiar with the new camera, while filling a space on the gallery "wall."
