When my Sigma lens stopped talking to my 10D
I bought two used Tamron lenses.......

A 24-105mm(maybe it was a 135)

A 19-35mm

These were both designed to work
with both film and digital cameras.

The wide angle works fine, I had to return
the tele because it also caused the 99 error code.

I would go for the 28-75mm for the speed
and constant aperture however since I do
a lot of theatrical photography I need the
longer reach of at least a 105mm.

I have the 28-300mm 3.5/6.3 and it's lovely and was my 'standard' lens until I bought the 28-75mm.  I like the 28-75mm better because of the wider aperture. I would, however, like a little more reach sometimes.

Tamron is good stuff...you won't go wrong with any of it, I don't think.
