each has its pros and cons... CCD gives better dynamic range and image
quality... CMOS is easier to manufacturer and the ipipe can be embedded into
the sensor itself... CANON choses CMOS because of this fact and that they
can built their digic ipipe onto the chip...
CMOS essentially are memory chips... LOTS of manufacturers and their roadmap
is easier to plan... CCD has MUCH fewer manufacturers... about 10... and the
camera's roadmap is essentially tied to the CCD manufacturers... which is
also the reason why CANON chooses CMOS...
large format sensors like phaseone and sinar uses CCD
both are just as good... but the choice by the camera makers to go CCD or
CMOS are often not we make it out to be... proven time and time again...
even with the current range of sensors... CMOS sensors are of lower
quality... hands down anytime CCD is the clear winner in the RAW state...
why CANON wins out with CMOS is because of its ipipe processor... DIGIC...

I still love and use my film camer (Minolta Dynax 7) because I am sure
nothing get wrong with it's system.
Now how about the new digital camera?
Do you think with new fast trend of digital era, are they reliable enough?
If you think not, then look at the following site for more info:

Uhhhhh, reliable enough for what? For commercial photography? For photo
journalism? These are a couple of the users for the past few years.
I don't have a CCD camera, I use Canon EOS and Canon DSLRs use CMOS
sensors.
