The camera file name is of no use to me whatsoever. it is not connected to the subject matter at all and in any case all the camera info is embedded so it doesn't need to be in the file name.
The first thing I do when I get back from an assignment is I save all the images to a folder which I name according to the assignment.
EG "Autumn_05 Sharqia desert trip"
I then do a batch re-name on the files using the date, location and a 4 digit serial number
EG "051029_Nizwa_0001 to 0955"
