Yes, and I seem to recall Stieglitz himself using the term "snapshot"
in the title of some of his images, so he cannot have been altogether
adverse to it.

Taken in 1907 with a plate camera it's clearly not a snapshot - did
the technology allow snapshots then?
Well, perhaps not the equipment Stieglitz had to use.
But the Kodak had been out since around since 1888, and because it
could be hand held and fired quickly it "stole" the name of
snapshots for its images.
The Box brownie appeared in 1900 for $1...
