Mmm ... if you are the government it's quite easy.

There are quite a few military bases where taking photographs (even from "outside the wire") is illegal and can indeed get your collar felt. FOr isntance, taking photos on board HMS Victory is still a criminal offence!!!!!

At least in the US freedom is a lot better defined than it is over here.

You're right! Though I was thinking of private citizens rather than the military arm of government.

Likewise it's illegal in the UK (I believe) to take photographs of railways from anywhere, not just a railway station! After all you might be a terrorist...
