As far as your project goes you might consider using a technique involving freezer paper. I believe it is available from a grocer. You heat press fabric to it and run it straight thru your printer.
i wonder how the cloth sticks to the paper? And whether I would need to do something special with the leading edge to make sure it wouldn't lift up? Could you run those questions by your friend?
