On the 10d, the camera works in 12 bit and converts to RAW or JPG on the fly and saves it on the CF card. Some cameras do save in TIF though. And my RAW files are non-lossy compressed and come out to 6-7 MB. When you choose fine or coarse JPG, you choose how lossy the JPG will be saved. Fine JPG has very little compression, whereas coarse small is compressed more and downsized. Lots going on in camera it seems. Which again is why I stick to RAW files only. I can shoot 9 in a row and then I have to wait a couple of minutes to completely clear the camera, but as soon as one is saved, I can shoot one more. I have never hit the limit where I can't shoot. Oh, and if I am composing and using the camera, the saving of all files stops temporarily, so it's best to let the camera do it's thing if you don't really need to use it to compose another, etc. -- Jim Davis, Nature Photography: http://jimdavis.oberro.com/ Motorcycle Relay Kits: http://www.easternbeaver.com/
