I use it (1.2.3) and I like it a lot. Good chance altogether if you don;t want to pay big bucks fro photshop.

They say 2.0 to be quite a piece of soft.
There is quite solid commercial printing support (Cmyking and preprint stuff) to Gimp already, I've heard.
Plus multiplatforming.
Quite economic alltogether.
