Hello all...

I really like what Peeter has put forth...

I have been trying to get a hand of gimp for a little while now...
Undoubtedly, it is amongst the best image-editors out there...
Moreover, it's FREE !

I downloaded the Version 2 just day before yesterday...
It's never been better!
For those who thought GIMP was a geek-only functionality-based editor,
Check-out Gimp 2.0... GUI is waaaaay better than anytime before...

I don't think first-timers would be as scared now... it's very comfortable
now...
Great Make-Over!
All should try it at least once...

Here is an excerpt from web :

The GIMP developers are proud to release version 2.0 of the GIMP, the
leading free software tool for image manipulation.

This release is a major event, marking the end of a three year development
cycle by a group of volunteers and enthusiasts who have made this the most
professional release of the GIMP ever. It is the first stable release that
is officially supported not only on Unix-based operating systems, but also
on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh OS X.

Started in 1995 by Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis, the GIMP has evolved
into a mature and powerful application. The latest release has major
improvements in the user interface, making the GIMP more accessible for
casual users as well as graphics professionals. The quality of the code base
has also been substantially improved, making it easier for the open source
community to contribute useful and high-quality add-ons to the GIMP.

The full press release along with a document describing the new features of
GIMP version 2.0 are available as PDF files. Jakub Steiner has prepared a
bunch of small video presentations which show some of the new features as
well.

The GIMP 2.0 release is available for download at ftp.gimp.org and from the
mirror sites.

Happy Editing Folks! :-)

Is Gimp really that bad?
They say 2.0 to be quite a piece of soft.
There is quite solid commercial printing support (Cmyking and preprint
stuff) to Gimp already, I've heard.
Plus multiplatforming.
Quite economic alltogether.
