Ain't digital wonderful ;o)

In the "old days", one of the recommendations for learning photographers was to "burn" a lot of film. Although this advice was frequently abused, with a lot of shooting without much thought, the basic idea was that one can test a lot of techniques, settings and composition to see what works and also generally learn what things look like when photographed.

Digital allows this learning process to take place without the cost (and time, if one develops at home) that this learning process incurs. It can be a great teaching tool in the same way that "burning film" was, but in a way that makes it much more accessible.
