<<< Yes, in fact this morning I took a duck's portrait at 400 and for the heck of it went to ISO 100. This should give you an idea of the difference between 100, the lowest noise and 400, such as on the Egret shot.>>> Jim DOH! Sorry, in the last post I completely screwed up: I missed the "ISO 100" in the top left hand corner of the right-hand images!!! I'll tell you what: ISO 100 does a better job of removing noise than Neatimage ;o) Just as with film: ultra fast is best seen as a compromise - to let you capture low-light or action shots that are truly impossible with slower speeds. It's one of the things I can see digital improving on in the next decade - photon capture efficiency. Tomorrows ISO 400 may match todays 100. I think I mentioned in a previous post: wouldn't it be ace if the D10 had three exposure modes: Aperture priority, Shutter priority (both as now, for the selected ISO) and a third "Smart-ISO" where aperture and shutter speed were set by the photographer. Mmmm - maybe you can do that with Manual if you download the raw file? I'd like to say set the shutter speed + aperture and have the camera choose the ISO for the lighting.
