Re: my new photo site

Jim,

I started Web-design using notepad - then tried Frontpage Express,
Frontpage, Dreamweaver and now Fusion.

Frontpage was very easy to use - but when something didn't work, it was very
difficult to find out why, - from an HTML point of view, the code it
generated was simply awful...

The most annoying thing about it was that you could import a decent page and
it would convert it to something that (maybe) worked in Internet Explorer
but the code was absolutely "bloated".

So, I was very much impressed with Dreamweaver: imported code was not
changed and the HTML it generated using its WYSYWYG interface was almost
perfect.

I tried one of the first versions of Fusion then as well - and found it very
counter-intuitive.

Today, things have changed a lot: Frontpage code is almost decent and Fusion
is very easy to use and has a great photo gallery tool that allows you to
create thumbnails and pages with no effort at all.

With Dreamweaver, I would have to create individual pages with the correct
navigation and I usually left the creation of the thumbnail to ThumbsPlus.

Now, I just have to select the photos, I want to use and Fusion does
everything else for me.

A real time saver. Also, I can change the design/navigation of a whole site
in no time...

I had some problems though: a table looked distinctly different in the
preview (and on the net) then in the normal window. I only found out what
was wrong by consulting the HTML view, but could not correct the error
there.

Back to normal view, copy a working table row, change everything, check in
HTML, check in preview, upload...

Tedious.

Right now, I'm not sure. I might try the newest version of Dreamweaver, or
upgrade from Fusion 7 to 7.5 (7 doesn't let you add meta text to your photo
galleries).

So, I would still appreciate comments on my sites:

http://www.travelphoto.net/ (mostly Dreamweaver/Homesite)
http://www.onlinephotogalleries.com/ (Fusion)

http://guests.travelphoto.net (Fusion)
http://china.travelphoto.net/ (Dreamweaver)
http://www.travelphoto.net/photos/travel-pictures/china/html/three_gorges.html
(Fusion)

And: I can take some honest criticism. Helps me to improve...

Laurenz
